The two hundred at the brook

When David came home to Ziklag he found it burned to the ground and everyone he loved carried off. So he gathered his six hundred men and gave chase. But at the Besor brook two hundred of them were too worn out to cross. They could not take another step. So David left them there to hold the supplies, and he pressed on with the four hundred who were still standing.

They caught the raiders. They recovered every wife, every child, every thing that had been taken, and they came back loaded with the spoil. And then some of the men who had gone to fight decided that the two hundred who stayed with the supplies deserved nothing but their own families back. Nothing of the reward.

David would not have it. He drew a line that still stands today. “The share of the one who went to battle will match the share of the one who stayed with the supplies. They will share alike.” (1 Samuel 30:24) And he made it a law in Israel from that day on.

The ones who guarded the supplies and the ones who ran down the enemy carried the same reward. Because the victory was never won by the four hundred alone. The two hundred held the ground that set them free to run. This is the truth we are standing on for Pakistan. If you send us, you are not on the sidelines of this trip. You are over the line with us, and you share alike in everything God does there.

What this trip really is

Philip is going to Pakistan with The Cross Ministries, a company of evangelists who are not chasing a headline. They are not there to report a big number of decisions and leave. They preach the Gospel to get people saved, and they stay to disciple them so they keep walking with Jesus long after the crusade lights are switched off. This time around, they are preparing the soil with Jesus through Pastors Conferences, Church and other ministry and preaching the Gospel, providing humanitarian aid and drilling a borehole in a village where getting clean water is a strenuous, timely process.

We see this as prophetic: Jesus ministered to the woman at the well, Jesus says His Word is like Living Water, in Psalms we read that with God is the fountain of life, in Isaiah we see God turning the wilderness into pools of water, dry ground into water springs, and finally, in Jesus’ own words: “The Life I give becomes a spring of water welling up to Eternal Life!”

God’s heart beats for souls, but it breaks for discipleship.

That is why this trip is different. It is the Great Commission in full, not half of it. Every person a real and personal encounter with the living Jesus, and then walked into a life of following Him. Saved, and kept. That is the whole assignment, and it is the one we are carrying to Pakistan by God’s grace and on His instruction.

In 2016 God spoke clearly to Marilé and myself about starting crusades and outreaches with a strong focus on discipleship, based in Kansas City, USA. His instruction was, “I want you to go to Kansas City, USA and bring revival to the heart of America.” Now, ten years later, in God’s perfect timing, we are doing exactly that. First, we went to Burundi, the heart of Africa. This time, we are going to Pakistan focusing on church partnerships and pastors’ conferences, preparing the soil for a missions trip that will lead many to Jesus, and ensure they are discipled.

Apart from the fact that it has been 10 years since God’s initial instruction to us, the time difference between Kansas City, Kansas, USA and Pakistan, is 10 hours. And in God’s Word, the number 10 refers to “in God’s perfect will, it is complete.” We see You in this, Jesus. Thank You. Here I am, send me.

1. Go before us in prayer

Wales gave the church one of its great intercessors in Rees Howells. Before the crowds, before anything could be seen with the eye, there was a man on his knees preparing the ground. Howells lived by the conviction that prayer goes ahead of the work and makes the soil ready for God to move, and when he carried that conviction onto the mission field in Africa, revival followed the prayer. The visible work was always being held up by the hidden one.
