“And they said to one another, ‘Did not our heart burn within us while He talked with us on the road, and while He opened the Scriptures to us?’”
Luke 24:32 NKJV
A few centuries before Jesus, the Old Testament was translated into Greek. That translation, the Septuagint, uses one small verb, kaiō, to burn, for some of the most important fires in Scripture. The bush that burned and was not consumed (Exodus 3:2). The fire on the altar that had to burn continually and never go out (Leviticus 6:13). The Word in Jeremiah’s bones, like a burning fire (Jeremiah 20:9).
Then Luke picks up the same word on the Emmaus road. Jesus had just vanished from their table, and the two disciples turned to each other and asked whether their hearts had not burned within them.
The bush, the altar, the bones and the heart. It is one fire all the way through, and every time it starts the same way. God speaks.
That is why we open one Scripture with you every weekday morning. Hearts still burn when Jesus opens the Word.
Let His Word spread like wildfire
