“Then I said, ‘I will not make mention of Him, nor speak anymore in His name.’ But His word was in my heart like a burning fire shut up in my bones; I was weary of holding it back, and I could not.”
Jeremiah 20:9 NKJV
Jeremiah had had enough. A priest had beaten him and put him in the stocks. He was mocked all day long, and every time he opened his mouth it cost him. So he made a decision to stop speaking in the Lord’s name.
It did not last. The Hebrew word for bones is etsem. It also means the very self, the substance of a thing. Jeremiah was not describing a feeling that came over him in a meeting. The Word had become part of who he was, and you cannot switch off something that lives in your bones.
This is the first of the three words that carry The Wildfire Co.: the Fire. For us, the fire is the Word. We do not mean hype, or an atmosphere worked up on a Sunday. We mean Scripture that gets into you so deeply it cannot stay shut up.
Maybe you have gone quiet too. Tired, hurt, done explaining yourself. Jeremiah’s story says the Word is not finished with you.
Let His Word spread like wildfire
It starts with the fire He kindles in you. Today, read Jeremiah 20:7-13 slowly, and tell God honestly where you have gone quiet.
